When my father opened his tailor shop in 1955, as a young boy, I remember he was using Trippelware chalk.

This chalk is a little waxier than PMC made chalk. In my opinion, it crumbles a little less and is easier removed with a hot iron. Although from experience, I wouldn’t use either on silks. I will say that either chalk does break upon impact from the floor.
