Coil zipper has 2 main qualities which are well suited for curved applications. They function well when sewn into a curve. That’s why manufacturers use them on suitcases as just one example. Using 2 slides, the slide can open or close from any point.

We would recommend either a #5 or #10 coil (the larger the number, the thicker and more durable the zipper.

#5 for average size dogs, #10 for the doggies that can be sat upon, or just plain feisty. [Just a little fido humor there]
The coil zippers are for closed bottom applications. One that does not need to divide into two separate halves as a jacket zipper.
